You use your neck muscles more than you realize, which makes them very easy to injure. Poor posture while performing simple everyday activities, like leaning over your computer, can strain your neck causing shoulder and neck pain. But sometimes neck pain can signify something more serious causing shooting pain into your shoulder or down your arm, numbness or loss of strength in your arms or hands, changes in bladder or bowel habits and the inability to touch your chin to your chest. No matter what your symptom, chiropractic care can be your solution for neck pain relief.
Also called neck sprain or neck strain, this is a common injury to the neck. Whiplash is caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head, either backward or forward, and often occurs as a result of a car accident or trauma. In whiplash, the intervertebral joints (located between vertebrae), discs and ligaments, cervical muscles and nerve roots may become damaged. Symptoms of whiplash may be delayed for 24 hours or more after the initial trauma. Sufferers experiencing whiplash may develop one or more of the following symptoms, usually within the first few days after the injury –neck pain and headaches, stiffness, pain in the shoulder or between shoulder blades, low back pain, pain or numbness in the arm or hand, dizziness, ringing in the ears or blurred vision, difficulty concentrating or remembering, irritability, sleep disturbances and fatigue. If you have any of these symptoms, a visit to Cornerstone Chiropractic can uncover whether you need whiplash treatment.
When a nerve exits the spine, it can become pressed between two bones or compressed by an bulging or herniated disc resulting in numbness and tingling in other parts of the body. The area where you experience these symptoms is indicative of where in the spine the “pinching” occurs. Nerve irritation in the neck often leads to symptoms in the shoulders, arms or hands. When the pinched nerve is related to joint dysfunction or bone malposition a successful pinched nerve in neck treatment is a chiropractic adjustment. Using carefully directed and controlled pressure, Dr. Joe will restore joints to a normal position and motion, reducing the pressure placed on the nerve quickly and painlessly.
