Radial nerve entrapment or radial tunnel syndrome is a condition in which a nerve in the forearm is squeezed, narrowed or flattened (compressed), causing elbow pain and weakness of the wrist or hand. But unlike other nerve problems affecting the hand, radial tunnel syndrome does not cause a loss of sensation, such as numbness or tingling. Repetitive activity and injury are the most common causes of radial nerve entrapment. It is sometimes misdiagnosed as tennis elbow because both conditions cause pain on the outside (lateral) part of the elbow. As part of treatment and as prevention against recurrent injury, Dr. Joe will perform an ergonomic assessment to examine your posture and activities, and suggest alternatives to aggravating positions, tools and movement patterns.
A pinched nerve (nerve entrapment) in or near the elbow can cause elbow pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness of the arm, wrist or hand. The nerve that most commonly gets pinched in or near the elbow is the ulnar nerve. These symptoms are often confused with cervical herniated discs. Active Release Technique is often a treatment used to treat ulnar nerve entrapment.
